Overview
Hail Damage Repair
Hail is the most common comprehensive claim in southern Alberta, and it arrives all at once — a fifteen-minute storm generates weeks of work for every shop in the city. The people who come out of it best are the ones who open their claim and book an assessment immediately.
Because hail damage usually leaves the paint intact, most of it can be corrected with paintless dent repair. That means original finish retained, no repainted panels on the vehicle's record, and a considerably faster turnaround than conventional bodywork.
What this service covers
- Full hail damage assessment with dent matrix documentation
- Paintless dent repair across hoods, roofs, deck lids and quarters
- Conventional panel repair and refinish where PDR is not viable
- Roof skin replacement on severe strikes
- Windshield and glass replacement
- Direct insurance claim handling and supplement submission
- Fleet hail programs with staged scheduling
- Written total-loss opinion when the numbers say so
What to do in the first 48 hours after a storm
Storm-chasing operators appear within days of a major hail event, work out of temporary space, and are gone before any warranty question arises. We are a permanent Calgary facility and we will still be here.
Key points
- Photograph the vehicle in daylight, from a low angle, while it is dry — dents show best in reflected light
- Open the claim with your insurer straight away, before the queue builds
- Book your assessment even if you have not yet heard back from the adjuster
- Do not let anyone start work without a written estimate and a shop you can find again in six months
- Check whether your policy waives the deductible on comprehensive hail claims — many in Alberta do
How hail is assessed and priced
Hail estimates are built from a dent matrix: each panel is counted for the number of dents and graded by size. That matrix drives the labour hours the insurer authorises, so an accurate count matters — undercount it and you end up in a supplement fight halfway through the repair.
We count under proper reflected lighting, panel by panel, and photograph the process. Where a panel has more damage than PDR can economically correct, we say so and price the conventional repair instead of pretending.
Fleet hail programs
A hailstorm that hits a yard damages every unit in it at once, and a fleet cannot afford to have them all off the road together. We schedule fleet hail work in waves so you keep a working number of units in service throughout, and we handle the claim documentation for the whole group rather than sending you a stack of separate files.

Collision & Autobody FAQ
Questions about hail damage repair
If yours is not here, call the shop — somebody who works on the vehicles will answer it.
Will a hail claim raise my premium?
Hail is a comprehensive claim, not an at-fault collision, and in most Alberta policies it is treated differently from an at-fault loss. Your broker can confirm exactly how your policy handles it — ask before you decide whether to claim.
My car is older. Is it worth repairing?
Sometimes the repair cost exceeds the vehicle's value and the insurer will declare a total loss. We will give you a straight assessment either way. If you intend to keep the vehicle regardless, we can prioritise the panels that matter and leave the rest.
How long is the wait after a big storm?
Longer than anyone would like — every shop in the city fills at the same moment. Booking your assessment in the first few days is the single biggest thing you can do to shorten your wait.
